Strolling Magic

Boston Magician performs for Adult birthday party

Strolling Boston Magician

Many people don’t know one form of magic from another. That’s O.K. It’s not their fault. Most have a stereotype of what a magician is and does. Some think we are childish and are only entertainment for Children’s Birthday Parties. (Not that there’s anything wrong with that.)
I do perform Birthday parties in Boston and its surrounding suburbs, but for adults.

I have one specialty which goes by many names. Strolling Magic, Walk Around Magic, Mix”n Mingle, Close Up Magic. If you know other names or something comes to mind send it to me www.ferrantimagic.com.

The Strolling Magician does not perform a formal show. I mean you wouldn’t set up chairs and have your guests seated to watch a 45-minute show. ( Although you may be interested in a formal close-up show.)
There are unlimited venues where you may utilize a Strolling Magician. These are listed on my services page.
In short, The Magician makes his way through the event entertaining groups of people. It is not unusual to hear loud clapping, laughing, and cheering. It truly is a good time for everyone involved. No doubt, you will have people approach you and tell you they have never seen a Magician as good as you in their life. ( A wise Magician advises, not to get a fat head!) It’s really quite simple. Most people have never experienced the talents of a professional Magician. If they do again, he will be their “New Best Magician ever.” That’s why you don’t have to order a new hat size.

More often than not, you will be everybody’s new best friend. I’m not sure what that says about my needs for having my ego stroked.
Make no mistake, whether it be Boston or Worcester, no one will put more heart into their Mingling show than Joe Ferranti.
It would be my pleasure to entertain your guests for any occasion. They will thank you. That is a guarantee.

Graduation Party entertainment – Get Magic

June 6th, 2021…graduation and celebration for the Senior Class of Newburyport High School.
In May, I performed for the Billerica Memorial High School Graduating Class. Although I was fully vaccinated, the students were not. Following safety protocols, I performed with a mask as well as the graduating class. It was a great evening, enjoyed by all. We made the best of what we had, still not out of the pandemic.

Jump forward to June 6th, the entire graduating class on Newburyport High School has been vaccinated and we picked up where we left off pre-pandemic. No holds barred, Close Up Magic performed as it is meant to be performed, “Close Up and Personal.” The kids, 17 and 18 years old loved it. I mean kids compared to me, the young men and women are heading off to college at the end of the summer, and they’ll be attending classes in person. The graduates caught a “break” after the seemingly endless life with restrictions.

Of course, we will all go through many challenges as the return to “normal” is not going to happen overnight.
Good Luck to you all, it was a pleasure to meet and spend a few minutes entertaining you with magic.
Joe Ferranti

Update 9-18-21

The return to normalcy was short-lived. We have stalled at 54% vaccination. Certainly short of slowing the spread, or variants of this virus. We are booked into December for holiday parties. Money has been spent securing venues, let us hope we can gather together to continue the celebrations.

Boston Magician poses with Bachelorette Partiers.

In the above picture, we see Boston magician Joe Ferranti with the “girls”. I was not part of the original plan. (Not even close!)

Joe Ferranti is not your typical entertainment for a bachelorette party

The ladies had originally planned to spend a weekend in Miami, but the world changed because of the coronavirus. Still, they wanted to celebrate in some manner, back home in Boston. They found me on Google, which lead to additional bookings from the hostess.

It’s been a couple of months since my last performance. I miss the live interactions with clients.

Honestly…it seems I may never return to my “work.” I may never shake another hand, or experience the mere casual touches which make up respectful human interactions.

I have cancelled accounts which help with contacting potential clients. (Gig this or Gig that…) Their fees cost a substantial amount of money, but there was a return for having listings beyond my website. No one is contacting me for events that can’t take place.

If I ever return, I hope you shop locally. That means, take the time to search out magicians and visit our web sites. Of course, price shop, compare experience, check the reviews…see some videos. (The videos tell the actual story)

As I write this, I see a wedding my wife and I were to attend in July. They have postponed their wedding … I guess the Bride and groom want “real” guests present, not virtual ones.

When you feel safe, call me or contact ferrantimagic.com

Hoping we meet soon.

All Best Wishes,

Adults love Magic…many just don’t know it yet.

Walk Around/Strolling Magician Massachusetts

I have had the pleasure to work many cocktail events for private parties and large corporate events. I have performed for more people than I can remember.
what I have learned is that the large majority have never seen a professional magician, other than on television.

Being the first magician that people see is a special opportunity. Many have only seen an uncle or friend perform a self-working card trick, dealing endless piles of cards and just before you are ready to fall asleep, they find your card. (sometimes)

Yes, we know why many of you are reluctant to welcome us into your circle for even a few moments. But if I do my job right, it only takes a few seconds and I know you will want to see more. These are not your grandfather’s magic tricks.

See for yourself

Close-Up Magic Boston

See the reactions your guests will have, laughter and amazement as they have never witnessed. Often happening in their own hands.

Working with everyday objects elevates the impossibility of magic. No trick boxes or gimmicky props. We use playing cards, coins, rubber bands, dollar bills. I even borrow items from audience members. (of course I return them unharmed.)

Even those reluctant to take part, see the playfulness and gladly join in to “play the game.” Bringing the Magic of Joe Ferranti to your event is one of the best decisions you can make.

Just Give Them the Damn Card!

An Article addressed to Magicians

So, the concepts I’ve learned are not new… I am sharing my experiences, which agree with the conventional knowledge of magicians through time. However, those who are new to this type of entertainment may discover something “new” to them.

Anyone working for the audiences that count, lay men. Most likely perform an Ambitious Card Routine. Why wouldn’t you? So much magic in a short period. (Yes, please keep it short.)

Walk Around Magician Massachusetts

Often when performing the Ambitious Card routine for couples, I will follow up with a Signature Fusion Effect. Why not? I am already halfway home as I’ve already got one signed card. All that requires to be done is to get the other side of the card signed, unknowingly to the couple.

The method I use is Shaun MCCree’s Second Inkstain, from his excellent two DVD set… Mix N’ Mingle So with a little extra effort, I have a unique “signature fusion” card to leave with the couple.

Sleight of Hand Magician Massachusetts

The drawback of performing the Ambitious Card is you will quickly note the size of the deck diminishes rapidly.

The answer to this problem was simple, carry extra cards. This way, your deck stays intact. (Advice provided by experts since the beginning of time.)

In some tricks, the free choice of a card is paramount. This is not so with the Ambitious Card.

Solution: I carry a bunch of red number cards in a pocket… signatures show up well on a red number card. Signing the card is stronger than the free choice of one.it Following this procedure avoids getting bogged down in a selection procedure. I just give them the card. I normally say something like…

”Here’s a card I brought for you. It was sitting in a drawer, collecting dust. Do me a favor, sign your name as big as you can on the face of the card…now I think it’s kind of special…don’t you? (addressing the boyfriend, they always agree.) Now we’re off to the races.

Simple… Just give them the damn card.

Mass. Magician Joe Ferranti produces a Jumbo coin!

Some magicians worry about how much “time” they get out of a routine. I suggest we worry about the impact each routine will have on our audience, not on how to fill time as goal-to complete be a task.

Perhaps you’ve seen the ads, Five Minutes with a… (rope, pocket handkerchief, etc.) The ads focus on the time you will get out of a routine. I understand the need to structure our act to fill different time slots. I think we are starting at the end, instead of the beginning. If our primary focus is on building a 45 minute act, we may miss the mark of 45 minutes of top-notch entertainment.

Close Up-Strolling Magician Mass.

I’ve learned a few things, thinking back to my time in school. Certainly not my glory days, and not directly pertinent to this topic. What applies was my attitude. I wasn’t enjoying the journey, and my goal was to find the quickest way to finish an assignment.

As a child, “being done” meant reclaiming time to do what I wanted… playing with friends, watching TV… all important to an adolescent, but came at a cost of other things I had yet to realize were also important.

Magic is entertainment.

As an adult, I have learned to invest time for reasons other than satisfying my desire to avoid work.

I am referring to those magic tricks that fill up time with not enough regard for entertainment. I won’t name the “tricks”, but I am talking about the ones which are promoted as “time consumers”.

Time is important when putting together an act, even vital in competitions. Time is not important, in fact, it is detrimental when viewed from a perspective as “filler”.

The length of a routine is important information, because we have timelines which affect our client’s needs. Not to fill a program with fluff! There’s just no room for filler… we are making entertainment, not pillows.
